Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to

  • Learn how to use a relational database created in Microsoft Access
  • Understand why a database is made and what purpose it might serve for storing information
  • Manage files in Windows, and setting download options in the Chrome browser

Methods/Results

The tutorial consisted of three sections, each with video tutorials that I followed along with Microsoft Access. The tutorial explained what an Access database is, and what the advantages of using one are. Access allows for data to be relationally stored, meaning data is connected in order to eliminate data discrepancies and any redundancy. It then showed how to create a database and how the different tools in Access are used. The second section focused on building and refining a database. This involved defining data, entering data into the proper organizational methods, and then establishing relationships between the data. Data from a previously made Excel spreadsheet can also be brought to Access to prevent the need for manual recreation. The third section was about retrieving information from the database, which is done by utilizing the query and report tools.

Conclusion

This assignment taught me how to create and edit a database with the Microsoft Access software, as well as showing me why databases might be preferred over other methods for information storage. The tutorial showed me the different tools that can be used when making a database, and I feel confident in the skills that I have learned. I also learned how to manage files within Windows, as well as how to properly download from Chrome.

Acknowledgements

The Acknowledgments section. You must acknowledge your homework partner or team members with whom you worked, giving details of the nature of the collaboration. You should include when and how you met and what content you worked on together. An appropriate statement could be (but is not limited to) the following: I worked with my homework partner (give name and link name to their user page) in class. We met face-to-face one time outside of class. We texted/e-mailed/chatted online three times. We worked on the <details> portion of the assignment together. Except for what is noted above, this individual journal entry was completed by me and not copied from another source. Sign your Acknowledgments section with your wiki signature.
