Feedback on Week 1 Assignment

I am posting the feedback on your Week 1 assignment here.

• Thank you for submitting your assignment on time.
• All of the items listed in the assignment were completed except for the following items noted below. You have the opportunity to make up the points you lost on your assignment by making the requested changes by the Week 3 assignment deadline.
• Your snail mail address is missing from your user page. If you do not have an LMU mailbox, you can use the Department of Biology address.
• What are your career interests and goals?
• When describing your independent research, say the dates like you would for your work experience.
• You wrote something in the summary field 47 out of 71 times (66%). The number of saves tells me that you are saving incrementally, early, and often, which is great. However we are aiming to write something in the summary field 100% of the time, so you have some room to improve on that.
• Please remove the category "User Page" from your user page.
• A link to an external website is missing from your user page.
• You need to use three levels of headers on your page; you are only showing two so far. By convention, we don't use the single "=", but start at the double "==". So you need "==", "====", and "====". Don't skip levels.
• For your numbered list, you used actual numbers (1, 2, etc.). The proper way to make a numbered list is just like a bulleted list, but using the "#" sign instead of "*". Don't skip lines in between.
• Because your category is also on your template, your user page has redundant code for the category. Since you are invoking your template, you did not need to add it manually to the user page.
• In your Acknowledgments section, please use the exact wording of the Academic Honesty statement.
• You are also missing a References section. Even when there are no other references, you need to cite the assignment page using the APA format for a web site reference.
• We will be using Denning's principle of communication in this class as you guys work on teams for the final project!

Feedback on Week 5 Database Page

I am posting feedback on your Week 5 Database page here.

• Most of your assignment was completed on time, but you added the acknowledgments section and link to your presentation 8 minutes late.
• You completed all of the requested items except for the following:
• You need to invoke your template on the page.
• When you manually created the category on the page, you preceded the line with a space character. That is actually a formatting instruction to use a fixed width font and surround the following text in a box. Thus, the category wasn't invoked properly. After you save something, look at the page to see if it did what you intended.
• When creating a link to download a file, please use the syntax instead of . The latter does not create a direct download link, but takes you to a secondary page.
• Your answers to whether the database can answer useful questions was rather vague, as was to whether the content was covered already by other databases.
• How often is the database updated?
• In terms of browsing and downloading the data, expand on your "yes" answers.
• In terms of the searching functions, expand on your "yes" answers.
• You provided in text citations in the form of hyperlinks for the first part of your page, but did not for the rest. Every answer needed to be supported by a link/citation.
• The references section was missing. There should have been APA-formatted citations to the database, the NAR paper, and to the Week 5 assignment, at a minimum.
• Starting with the Week 7 assignment, we will take a deep dive into Data Analysis and Data Visualization.

Week 1 Redux Feedback

• This is feedback on the corrections you made to the Week 1 assignment.
• All of the requested changes were made except for the followin:
• You created a new numbered list with the correct "#" syntax, but did not fix the other numbered list that was using numbers.
• The redundant category on the User page was not removed.
• Between September 12 to 19 you made 43 edits to the wiki. You wrote something in the summary field 40 times. Keep up the good work! Don't forget to write something when you upload a file.

Week 8 Interim Feedback

• I have checked your workbook submitted for the Week 8 interim deadline. It seems that all three of the members of your group had similar issues with the calculations. Corrections will need to be made before you are ready to continue on with the next stage of the protocol.
• Cell Z2 of the "dHAP4_ANOVA" sheet had the value of "0" instead of the formula that computes the average. Please go back and put in the correct formula. This will result in errors in some of the rest of the calculations because the data are missing, but it is not correct to put in a 0 if there is missing data or an error.
• It appears that you computed the Bonferroni correction and Benjamini and Hochberg corrections on incomplete data because you did not undo the filter before doing those calculations. You will need to repeat those on the unfiltered data before you can move on.
• When linking to a file on your wiki page, please use the syntax of instead of . The former syntax provides a direct link to download instead of taking you to an intermediate page.
• Also, you have two different files with two different filenames. The intention is to keep the filename the same and upload new versions of the same file to the wiki. The wiki will keep all previous versions of what you uploaded so that you can always go back and retrieve an earlier version if necessary. This will be less confusing in the long run because you won't have to worry about juggling multiple files.
• Also, the work from Thursday and today (Tuesday) should go on your individual Week 8 page. You can simply copy over from your Week 7 to your Week 8 for this.

Week 10 Interim Feedback

• I checked your GRNmap input workbook. I fixed a datatype issue on one of the expression sheets, so download the new version of the file before working with it. However, I think there still may be a formatting issue lurking in there because it won't load into GRNsight properly.
