Feedback on Week 1 Assignment
I am posting the feedback on your Week 1 assignment here.
- Thank you for submitting your assignment on time.
- All of the items listed in the assignment were completed except for the following items noted below. You have the opportunity to make up the points you lost on your assignment by making the requested changes by the Week 3 assignment deadline.
- Your snail mail address is not quite right. It is actually "LMU Drive" not "Loyola Marymount University Drive". "Department of Biology" would actually appear at the beginning of the address, instead of at the end. Done
- You wrote something in the summary field 48 out of 66 times (72%). The number of saves tells me that you are saving incrementally, early, and often, which is great. However we are aiming to write something in the summary field 100% of the time, so you have some room to improve on that.
- Please remove the category "User Page" from your user page. Done
- Make sure you are formatting your links correctly. It looks like you are formatting links that are internal to the wiki as external links. While this kind of works, it is better to do the syntax correctly. You have leftover square brackets showing up due to this. Done
- You used a leading space in front of your external link. I wasn't sure whether this was intended or not. Done
- Your template looks good. You should go ahead and add an internal link to the actual template page itself because that will be a useful navigation link in the future. Done
- You are missing you wiki signature from your Academic Honesty statement in your Acknowledgments section. Done
- You are also missing a References section. Even when there are no other references, you need to cite the assignment page using the APA format for a web site reference. Done
- I hope that as a result of this class you will start thinking of yourself more as a biologist!

Feedback on Week 5 Database Page
I am posting feedback on your Week 5 Database page here.
- Most of your assignment was completed on time, but you added the acknowledgments section and link to your presentation 8 minutes late.
- You completed all of the requested items except for the following:
- You need to invoke your template on the page.
- When you manually created the category on the page, you preceded the line with a space character. That is actually a formatting instruction to use a fixed width font and surround the following text in a box. Thus, the category wasn't invoked properly. After you save something, look at the page to see if it did what you intended.
- When creating a link to download a file, please use the syntax instead of . The latter does not create a direct download link, but takes you to a secondary page.
- Your answers to whether the database can answer useful questions was rather vague, as was to whether the content was covered already by other databases.
- How often is the database updated?
- In terms of browsing and downloading the data, expand on your "yes" answers.
- In terms of the searching functions, expand on your "yes" answers.
- You provided in text citations in the form of hyperlinks for the first part of your page, but did not for the rest. Every answer needed to be supported by a link/citation.
- The references section was missing. There should have been APA-formatted citations to the database, the NAR paper, and to the Week 5 assignment, at a minimum.
- We will talk more about Data Conversion and Quality Assurance as we move forward in the class.

Week 1 Redux Feedback
- This is feedback on the corrections to the Week 1 assignment.
- All of the corrections were completed except for the following:
- You added the reference to the Week 1 assignment, but it is not in the correct APA format.
- In the period from September 12 to 19, you made 57 edits to the wiki. You wrote something in the summary field 55 out of 57 times, keep up the good work! Don't forget to write something when you upload a file.

Week 8 Interim Feedback
- I checked your Excel workbook, submitted for the Week 8 interim deadline and all of your calculations are correct. Good work!
- I see that you made your ANOVA calculations in the sheet names "Master_sheet_dGLN3" instead of copying the data over to another sheet. It is good practice that for each set of calculations to do them in an new worksheet so that you can see the stages of analysis the data went through.
- When linking to a file on your wiki page, please use the syntax of instead of . The former syntax provides a direct link to download instead of taking you to an intermediate page.

Week 10 Interim Feedback
- I have reviewed your GRNmap input workbook.
- It looks good, just a couple of minor comments:
- Make sure that the genes are always in the same order on each worksheet. It looks like the genes are in a different order on a few of the expression sheets.
- You don't need to include dzap1 expression data because ZAP1 is not in your network. So that worksheet should be deleted.
— Kdahlquist (talk) 13:36, 5 November 2019 (PST)
- I created a new file by pasting special > paste values from each sheet into a new workbook. Discovered that there were extra space characters in the production rates that had been filled in with median values. This datatype mismatch was probably the problem causing GRNmap to throw an error.
