Electronic Lab Notebook

Purpose

This week, we will take an in-depth look at how to create and access a database made in Microsoft Access. By doing this, we will also learn the implications of this database, and how large amounts of data can be handled and access.

Methods

  1. Turn on File Extensions
  2. Set Download Options
  3. Download Database
    1. Scroll down and download Drugs@FDA .zip file
    2. Unzip file
      • Right click -> Extract Here
  4. Create Microsoft Access Database
    1. Click Create Blank Database
    2. In Menu Bar, click Import Text File
    3. Choose Text File
    4. Follow import instructions
      • Choose no primary key
  5. Query Database
    1. Select Query Design From Menu Bar
    2. Choose appropriate tables for query
    3. Create query by dragging between lines
    4. From Menu bar select Run
