What are your two most recommended Science Fiction books? Dramir36 (talk) 19:46, 31 August 2019 (PDT)
- It's hard to limit myself to two! If you haven't read the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card, you should. The movie was only so-so, though, so I'd read the book first. I recommend the Beggars in Spain trilogy by Nancy Kress. It is about American society dealing with genetically modified humans who don't need to sleep. I recommend the Xenogenesis series by Octavia Butler (Dawn, Adulthood Rites, Imago). The Infoquake series is a good cyberpunk biotech/computer tech read and was written by someone I knew in elementary school, David Louis Edelman. Finally, I have recently read a trilogy that starts with The Dark Forest by Chinese author Liu Cixin that was really thought-provoking. So counting all the books in series, that's 16! — Kdahlquist (talk) 17:07, 4 September 2019 (PDT)
What is your favorite dish to cook? Imacarae (talk) 18:32, 2 September 2019 (PDT)
- I like to make soups and stews in my slow cooker. I got a cool cookbook for cooking Indian food in the slow cooker and that's fun. I also like to bake bread. I have a sourdough starter in my refrigerator that is kind of neglected right now. — Kdahlquist (talk) 15:35, 6 September 2019 (PDT)
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why? Msamdars (talk) 13:25, 3 September 2019 (PDT)
- I haven't actually thought about this one before. I think maybe a whale or dolphin or elephant. We know that they have big brains and are intelligent, so I think it would be neat to experience their intelligence from the inside. — Kdahlquist (talk) 15:38, 6 September 2019 (PDT)
What is your favorite class you've taken in your academic career? Cdomin12 (talk) 14:56, 3 September 2019 (PDT)
- I've had a number of classes that I loved, but one that stood out as life-changing was a course called Understanding the Earth: Feminist Perspectives taught by Jill Schneiderman at Pomona College (who is now at Vassar College). It was truly interdisciplinary and I learned a lot from the other students who were non-science majors. — Kdahlquist (talk) 15:43, 6 September 2019 (PDT)
Where are your favorite vacation places? Ntesfaio (talk) 15:05, 3 September 2019 (PDT)
- I've gotten to travel to a lot of cool places for conferences, so I've not really been to any one place many times. I always try to visit the local zoo anywhere I go and there's a really cool one in Stockholm where you can walk inside the enclosure with the ring-tailed lemurs! — Kdahlquist (talk) 15:47, 6 September 2019 (PDT)
If you didn't major in a STEM field (more specifically, Biology), what would you have studied instead? Knguye66 (talk) 15:13, 3 September 2019 (PDT)
- I might have majored in philosophy because I had a strong interest in the philosophy of science. I only took my first women's studies class my senior year in college. Had I found it sooner, I might have chosen that. — Kdahlquist (talk) 15:50, 6 September 2019 (PDT)
